PRESS RELEASE

November 2015: TRACTOR and COMBINE HARVESTER SALES

Retail sales of agricultural equipment during November 2015 were as follows:

Month Percentage Year-to-date Percentage
November change November change
2015 2014 % 2015 2014 %
Tractors 385 482 -20.1 5 427 6 116 -11.3
Combine Harvesters 10 11 -9.1 206 325 -36.6

November tractor sales of 385 units were 20% down on the 482 units sold in November last year. On a year-todate basis sales are 11% down on last year. November combine harvester sales of 10 units were marginally down on the 11 units sold in November last year. On a year-to-date basis combine harvester sales are almost 40% down on last year.

The situation has worsened since last month as the drought and heatwave conditions prevail. Dryland farmers are now totally dependent on rain falling to carry their reduced crop plantings through. Farmers with supplementary irrigation have got to the situation where rain is required to replace the water in dams and rivers which is running critically low in many areas. The current situation is going to have far-reaching consequences on the agricultural machinery and food production industries.

Industry expectations for tractor sales in 2015 are now of the order of 12% down on last year. Combine harvester sales are expected to be approximately 40% down.
