Periodic fasting is going without food, drinking only water, for a period of time that may last from 12 to 16 hours. Most people undergo this kind of fasting in an effort to try to lose weight. However, there is mounting evidence that periodic fasting leads to an increase in estrogen production, which then leads to a process called autophagy. These three factors in combination appear to slow the aging process, as well. When considering aging, most often the piece left out of the discussion is the effects of hormones. Research indicates hormones play a significant role in aging and…

Did you know that there is an entire cluster of living things within you, which play a major role in the state of your physical and mental well-being? As a matter of fact, your gut is full of an entire colony, with more than 100 trillion tiny, yet mighty, bacteria. In simple words, your life literally depends on them. If you spend years taking rounds of antibiotics for every ill and ache, eat fast-food four days a week, and snack on heavily-processed junk all day, you are destroying the good bacteria within your microbiome. With widespread unhealthy diets, never-ending external…

Painting children’s nails may seem like harmless fun, but you may want to think twice. We put significant trust into nail polishes and salons, especially those labeled toxin-free, but what exactly is being placed on our little one’s hands and feet? Is it safe? Are these products really suitable for kids? The growing popularity of beautifully adorned nails means kids are being exposed to the idea on social media and TV from an even younger age. So it’s no wonder children are engaging in adult-like behaviors before their time. But as a parent, before you start painting children’s nails, there…

We often read that a glass of wine is actually good for you. That wine “lifts your mood” and relaxes you. This is often true. However, there are many instances where the opposite is the case, with evidence supporting what so many have said: there is a close correlation between alcohol and adrenal fatigue. If there is a correlation, what is it, and how does alcohol impact the adrenal glands? Adrenal Gland Function The word adrenal, i.e. ‘ad’ and ‘renal’, means ‘over the kidneys’. In other words, these two, small glands are each situated on top of a kidney. They…

Prior to the last few years, conventional medicine failed to consider leaky gut as a potential origin of any health conditions. That has changed. Now, even conventional medicine is at least beginning to understand how important your gut is to your overall health. Part of the reason for this change has to do with the discovery that up to 80% of your immune system resides in your gut. Another reason is due to an increasing understanding of the importance of nutrition in your overall health. Even recently researchers and clinicians are still making big discoveries about how much your gut…

Britain’s longest heatwave since 1976 has seen ice-cream sales soar, but a survey has revealed that some brands are sold without vanilla, cream or fresh milk. Vanilla has traditionally been Britain’s favourite flavour but a Which? investigation of supermarket and branded vanilla ice-creams found a number of them were lacking some key ingredients. One in five of the ice-creams examined by the consumer watchdog had none of the three ingredients shoppers might reasonably expect to find in vanilla ice-cream. Only half of the 24 surveyed contained all three traditional ingredients. Of the five products offering soft-scoop vanilla ice-cream without fresh…
